The Grand Haven girls cross country team did more than run well this year. After sending the team to their 17th straight state meet appearance this fall, the Bucs runners have one more achievement to celebrate, academic integrity.

Their cumulative grade point average of 3.958 set them third overall in the Division 1 Academic All-State standings, marking the seventh year in a row they have cracked the top five.

The girls ran to a 12th-place finish at the state meet this year led by Gabby Hentemann, Eliza Lowe and Kelsie Bovee. The trio continued to lead the team off the course; each earning individual Academic All-State honors. The award is given based on performance at the state meet as well as in the classroom.

Eliza Lowe earned the honor for the third time in her career.

The Grand Haven runners now will throw their noses back to the books for the winter and begin preparing for the impending track season this spring.
