GRAND HAVEN TWP. — Students raced around the Rosy Mound Elementary School playground Friday to raise funds for the school’s parent-teacher organization.

Throughout the morning, students participated in the race car-themed Jog-a-Thon.

While the main goal is to have fun while being active and reach their personal goals, it’s also the PTO’s only fundraiser for the year. Funds raised will go toward the playground, field trip transportation and classrooms.

The students had a goal to raise at least $50 each, said PTO Treasurer Lyndsi DeVries. Local businesses also contributed as sponsors to cover the costs of the Jog-A-Thon. More than 60 parent volunteers also helped make the event possible.

Rosy Mound PTO President Kate Dirkse said it’s neat seeing the community and school come together. She said families make a day out of the event by attending to cheer on their children and meet fellow parents. Dirkse said it also brightens the day for the kids to have their parents at school.
