This feature sheds light on the work students and teachers are doing, and it lets the community know what makes each class special.

Here’s more about this week’s featured classroom:

Name: Bridget Dephouse

School: St. John’s Lutheran

Grade: K-Club is a kindergarten and young fives enrichment program.

What makes your classroom special? I feel children that are between the ages 4 and 6 need to learn through hands-on experiences. In my classroom I have the freedom to teach in a fun and creative environment.

In addition to the curriculum, what are some things you teach your students? I teach with a focus on language arts. I try to incorporate literature when teaching math, science, social studies, and the alphabet. I cater my lessons to each child's individual needs and strengths.

What special project is your classroom working on now? Each week we create a book using the letter of the week. By the end of the week the students have a pride in reading their book to each other.

How is your classroom involved with the community? We walk to Duncan Woods every year on Earth Day to help clean up the park.

How do you hope what your students are learning now will affect their future? My hope for the future of my students is to create a love for learning!
