Grand Haven grapplers finish fourth at O-K Red Tournament
The Grand Haven wrestling team finished fourth at the O-K Red Conference tournament this weekend, placing nine grapplers in the top four of their weight classes.
Rockford came away with the top team finish, while Grandville finished runner-up and Hudsonville finished third.
Riley Rhone led the Bucs at 103 lbs, winning an individual conference championship. Hefzur Rahman (112 lbs) and Cody Miller (125 lbs) both finished runners-up in their respective weight classes, while Elijah Copado (125 lbs), Kyler Spangler (145 lbs), Trevor Rademaker (152 lbs) and Kaleb Butcher (171 lbs) all finished third in their weight classes.
Kirk Marsman (119 lbs) and Zach Boersen (135 lbs) both finished fourth in their weight classes.
Fruitport wrestling team finishes third at O-K Black tournament
The Fruitport wrestling squad took on the O-K Black Conference tournament on Saturday, finishing third with 126 points.
Reeths-Puffer took top team honors with 222 points, while Jenison finished runner-up with 162 points. Mona Shores finished fourth with 96 points; Kenowa Hills finished fifth with 56.5 points; Grand Rapids Union finished sixth with 45 points and Muskegon finished seventh with 11 points.
Crue Cooper and Zech Richardson each won their respective weight class championships to lead the Trojans.
Cooper took top honors at 171 lbs, defeating Payton Dobben of Reeths-Puffer by pinfall in the championship match. Richardson took top honors at 152 lbs, defeating Caleb McNeil of Reeths-Puffer in the championship by pinfall.
Brennen Martin finished runner-up at 103 lbs, while Mason Brown finished runner-up at 112 lbs and Domonic Dault finished runner-up at 135 lbs.
Connor Sykes finished third at 119 lbs, while David Ross finished third at 145 lbs, Jayme Woodring finished third at 215 lbs and Wes Illum finished third at 285 lbs.
Fruitport bowlers roll through Rocket Invitational
The Fruitport boys and girls bowling teams took on the Rocket Invitational hosted by Reeths-Puffer at Northway Lanes.
The Fruitport boys advanced to the championship match but fell by six pins to O-K Black Conference rival Kenowa Hills. The Fruitport girls were eliminated in the semifinals by rival Mona Shores, who went on to win the tournament.
Kennadi Dykstra led the girls’ squad, recording her highest set of the year with 510 points for three regular games. Jessica Plichta was a major contributor as well, finishing second on the team in scoring.
Connor Hines led the boys’ squad with a 556 series score, while Evan Simmonis added a 543.
Both squads will be back in action today, as they take on Muskegon at Northway Lanes at 3:30 p.m.
