PARK TWP. — Police have arrested a Zeeland man who they say used a weapon to detain a Holland-area woman in her home and demand money.

Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputies responded at 4:39 a.m. Wednesday to a home in the 16800 block of Riley Street in Park Township. The 54-year-old resident had untied herself after the suspect had fled and she called police. She was not injured, said Capt. Mark Bennett of the Sheriff’s Office.

The K-9 unit from the Holland Department of Public Safety was used to track the suspect to a vehicle that had been parked near the home.

As police continued to investigate the crime, they later located the 46-year-old suspect at his Holland Township work site, where he was taken into custody without incident, Bennett said.

The suspect’s name was not immediately released. Bennett said the man is expected to be arraigned Thursday on several felony charges: home invasion, assault with intent to commit an armed robbery and false imprisonment. He is currently lodged in the Ottawa County Jail.

The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the non-emergency line at Central Dispatch, 800-249-0911; the Sheriff’s Office at 616-738-4000; or Silent Observer at 877-887-4536.
