WRIGHT TWP. — The driver of a semi-truck that rolled over while eastbound on I-96 near the border of Ottawa and Kent counties Friday afternoon was sent to the hospital after the crash.

The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, the Wright/Tallmadge Fire Department and state police motor carrier division were dispatched to the interstate at the 24-mile marker at 2:34 p.m. on a report of a semi that had rolled. Upon arrival, police found that the semi with trailer had been traveling east when it left the roadway to the right and ended on its side.

The semi driver, a 60-year-old Florida resident, suffered minor injuries. He was taken to an area hospital for an examination.

The semi will be in the ditch for some time as it has to be unloaded before it is removed, Sgt. Brian Buter of the Sheriff’s Office reported at about 4 p.m. Traffic delays on I-96 in that area can be expected for several hours.

Buter did not say why the semi rolled over.
