WRIGHT TWP. — Two Marne teenagers were injured Friday night when the off-road vehicle they were riding flipped over on a Wright Township road.

Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Wright-Tallmadge firefighters were dispatched to 32nd Street, south of Arthur Road, at 8:11 p.m. The preliminary investigation at the scene revealed that two ATVs were being operated on the roadway when the operator of one of them attempted to turn around and lost control of his ATV, causing it to roll over.

When the ATV rolled over, both the driver and passenger were thrown from it, said Sgt. Christopher Dill of the Sheriff’s Office, and both boys suffered head injuries.

The 16-year-old passenger was treated by Life EMS paramedics and released to his parents at the scene. The 15-year-old operator was transported to Spectrum Health Helen DeVos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids by a Life EMS ambulance with suspected head and neck injuries, Dill said.

There was no collision with the second ATV, and the operator and passenger on that ATV were not injured.

None of the parties involved were wearing helmets at the time of incident, Dill said. Both vehicles were not road licensed and are traditional-style "quad" ATVs.

The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff's Office.
