Emergency crews from the Ottawa County Sheriff Marine Patrol and Coast Guard Station Grand Haven sped out the channel onto Lake Michigan late Sunday afternoon on a call of boaters in distress with the boat possibly sinking.

Officials quickly determined the boaters were safely off the boat, but that the small vessel was banging into the North Pier.

Minutes later, the Coast Guard crew was towing the boat back into the channel, escorted by an OCSD Marine Patrol boat.

Boat occupant Lyndsey DeWeerdt noted later on a Facebook post that the boat lost power as soon as they exited the channel onto the big lake and the boat got knocked into the pier. She expressed thanks to everyone who helped.
