"It's great to be open again," said library director Claire Sheridan. She expects the library to remain open throughout the rest of the construction period.
"Barring anymore giant cranes," she said, laughing.
SPRING LAKE – The Spring Lake District Library is closed temporarily until a crane can be removed from the parking lot.
Library director Claire Sheridan said she hopes to reopen the facility at 123 Exchange St. by 3 p.m. Monday.
“We didn't anticipate being closed,” Sheridan said. “There was a giant crane here Friday and Saturday working on a roofing project.”
Sheridan said breaking down the crane and getting it out of the parking lot is taking much longer than anticipated.
“It was supposed to be out of the lot today,” she said.
A construction company employee who normally breaks down the crane couldn't make it into work today.
“They have a couple of people working on it that aren't as experienced and it's taking much longer to break down this crane and get it ready to roll,” Sheridan said. “We will be open as soon as the crane gets out of the parking lot.”
The east side of the parking lot is already closed to traffic due to ongoing roof replacement, which is expected to be completed by the end of the week.
Contractors are replacing the 15-year-old roof at a cost of $500,000.
