Children and adults intently focused on their papers as they drew characters Monday afternoon.

From Rey, Yoda and BB-8, the group drew characters as local illustrator Corinne Roberts provided drawing tips during the “Star Wars”-themed event at Loutit District Library.

As they started out, Roberts explained that she encourages people to draw lightly so they can erase the lines as they finish their work. Step by step, Roberts walked the group through drawing the faces, necks and bodies.

Ramona Rodkey, 8, said the special class was helping her to become better at cartooning and drawing.

“She gave a lot of good tips,” Rodkey said of Roberts.

Rodkey said the event was fun, and she enjoyed drawing her favorite character from the “Star Wars” series, Rey.

Daphne Rodke, 7, said she liked drawing BB-8 because the droid is her favorite character.

“I think he’s really cool,” she said.
