Bob proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy and Marines. He married the former Judy Trap on May 6, 1959, in Muskegon. Bob worked for Hills Bros. Coffee for 25 years and also owned De Wall’s Thriftway and Jay’s Food Mart in Muskegon County. He was a member of the First Congregational Church UCC and active in the Saturday morning breakfast group serving the community; past board member of the Coast Guard Festival Committee; and loved kayaking, fishing, camping, playing cribbage and all kinds of sports. But, most of all, he loved his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Judy; children: Debbie (Pete) Hughes, Kristen (Mike) Mocere, Skip (Mary) De Wall and Jay De Wall. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren; his brother, Corniel De Wall; sisters-in-law, Sue and Sharon De Wall; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Marv and Phil De Wall; and sister-in-law, Audrey De Wall.
Visitation will be Saturday, December 29, 2018, from 4-7 p.m. at Klaassen Family Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be Sunday, December 30, 2018, at First Congregational Church UCC from 5-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, share Bob’s memory by performing random acts of kindness or donating to Harbor Hospice.
Prior to his death he wrote the following:
“I was born in Muskegon in 1937 to the ‘greatest parents’ in the world, Casey and Jeannette. I lived my life with three loving brothers: Marv (Sue), Niel (Audrey) and Phil (Sharon). What a great time we had! Then God blessed me when I found Judy, my fantastic soul mate and loving wife of 60 years. The blessings were just starting. Skip, Deb, Jay and Kris — you are my pride and joy. You brought to my life the fabulous grandkids … so full of fun and life. Dan, Jennifer, Lauryn, Rachel, Allison, Julia, Natalee, Sydnee, Hannah and Sophie: I love you guys so much! So everyone take care. Live life to its fullest. Love each other always.”
