Mrs. Virginia Helen Yedinak, age 82, of Burlington, North Carolina, passed away June 28, 2019, after an extended battle with multiple systems atrophy (MSA).

She was born the first of four children on December 9, 1932, in Robinson Township, Michigan, to George and Ann Berg. On August 23, 1958, she married her lifelong love, Eugene (Gene) Yedinak, whom she was married to for 58 years until his death in 2016.

Gena lived an active life of teaching, adventure and discovery. Gene’s career enabled the family to live in various parts of the country. Her favorite saying was “a rose will always bloom where planted.” Gene and Gena were avid travelers visiting many far reaches of the world. They loved sharing and reliving those experiences with others through wonderful pictorial travelogues complete with music. Many times over the years those travels included their grandchildren.

Gena started her career as a school teacher in Hancock, Michigan, and later in Fruitport, Michigan, before changing her focus to sharing her lifelong love of learning and teaching with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her loving family: two daughters, Karen (Bob) Tikkanen and Rhonda (Jim) Kabcenell; two sons, Robert (Meg Morley) Yedinak and Ross (Libby Shaw) Yedinak; and grandchildren: Michael (Darcy) Kabcenell and Dane Kabcenell, and Robert and Annelise Tikkanen.

Memorial contributions may be made in Gena’s memory to Blessed Sacrament Church Debt Reduction Fund, https://cc.blessedsacramentnc.org.
