After Congressman Bill Huizenga and Dr. Rob Davidson discussed their views on topics such as health care, clean water, campaign finance and abortion, the audience at Tuesday night’s debate had a chance to reflect on the event.

Grand Haven resident Bob Jensen said he thought health care stood out the most to him.

“I think it’s a big issue that all voters are taking seriously,” he said. “It affects everybody.”

Holland resident Linda Burn said she felt the best argued issue of the evening was campaign finance and helping people understand the money.

While Jan Klco thought the discussion about health care was compelling, she thought an uplifting aspect was what the candidates agreed with each other.

The Whitehall woman noted the two candidates agreed on overarching issues such as needing to clean up contaminated water. Klco said that while both Davidson and Huizenga feel the Affordable Care Act is flawed, their approaches to change it differ.

“It reminds me, and it should remind all of us, that we do have more in common than separate,” she said. “That was a compelling thing throughout for me.”
