Laker softball claims O-K Blue Conference
Spring Lake softball won its seventh straight O-K Blue Conference title on Wednesday by defeating Allendale 9-4 in a rubber match.
Allendale took an early 1-0 lead, but Spring Lake came storming back with four runs through three innings, leading the game 4-1.
Jenna Core then powered the Lakers further ahead with a three-run home run in the fourth inning to take a 7-2 lead.
Alicia Mumby added a solo home run in the sixth inning to finish out the Lakers’ scoring. It was Mumby's 11th home run of the season, which tied Core for Spring Lake’s single-season home run record.
Leah Vaughan controlled the pitching circle with six strikeouts, zero walks and only seven hits. The Lakers had 13 hits offensively, led by Vaughan and Mumby finishing with three hits apiece.
Spring Lake will be back in action Friday at Grand Haven for a Bucs Pride rivalry doubleheader.
Warrior soccer cruises past Hart in district opener
Western Michigan Christian put on a show Wednesday with an 8-0 win over Hart to open up district play.
The Warriors won via mercy rule, with Anna Sytsema’s hat trick leading the way. Grace Sytsema also scored, as did Morgan Kinnucan, Emily Rosema and Sydney Betten.
WMC next plays Ravenna in a district semifinal matchup.
