The wind and waves did not disappoint Friday as surfers and kiteboarders took to Lake Michigan ahead of the 2018 King of the Great Lakes Test Fest.

As of noon Friday, west winds reached 20-30 mph, with waves reaching as high as 10 feet on the lake. The water temperature was 59.

The three-day festival organized by MACkite continues today and Sunday at Grand Haven City Beach, with opportunities for newcomers to spectate and learn about the water sports. Registration opens at 10 a.m. both days.

The event is a chance for kiteboarders to learn alongside the MACkite crew and various kiteboarding reps and team riders. For anyone curious about the sport, the spectator option is a way to get in touch with local kiteboarders and instructors, with admission starting at $35.

Spectators are also welcome to come out and watch the action in the water for free.

The Test Fest schedule is available online at mackiteboarding.com/kogl-kiteboarding-gear-test-fest/.
