The mobile home community is located off 148th Avenue, about a half-mile north of M-104.
Crews from three area fire departments were called to the home at 17114 Superior Drive shortly before 8 p.m. Police officers who arrived at the scene before firefighters said it was "well involved" in flames when they arrived, WZZM-TV reported.
“The occupant of the home was found outside of the home with severe burns over his body and he was transported by ambulance to a Muskegon hospital,” Spring Lake Township Fire Chief Brian Sipe said.
There was no information about the man’s condition.
Fire crews were able to put out the fire within 20 minutes, Sipe said.
“The cause of the fire is still under investigation, although there does appear to have been some type of explosion within the residence,” Sipe said. “The home is a total loss.”
Some neighboring homes were also damaged by the fire, WXMI-TV reported.
Assisting the Spring Lake department at the scene were the Ferrysburg and Crockery Township fire departments, Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, and North Ottawa Community Hospital EMS.
